Menara Kuala Lumpur Revolving Restaurant - Seri Angkasa

Last Saturday (May 16th, 2009) I treated my girlfriend for lunch (it's for our fifth anniversary) at Seri Angkasa, better known as the Menara Kuala Lumpur Revolving Restaurant.

This is the location of Menara Kuala Lumpur :

The Kuala Lumpur Tower (officially known as Menara Kuala Lumpur; referred later as KL Tower) is a tall tower located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and was built in 1995. It is used for communication purposes and features an antenna that reaches 421 m (1,381 ft), which currently makes it the fifth tallest tower in the world. The roof of the pod is at 335 m (1,099 ft). The rest of the tower below has a stairwell and an elevator to reach the upper area, which also contains a revolving restaurant, providing diners a beautiful view of the city. Races are organised yearly where participants race up the stairs to the top. The tower also acts as the Islamic falak observatory to look for the crescent moon to mark the beginning of Muslim month of Ramadhan, Syawal, and Zulhijjah, to celebrate fasting month of Ramadhan, Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Aidiladha.

I picked up my girlfriend at her officec and we started our trip at 10:30am. Arrived at slightly after 12pm, thanks in part to Google Maps which helped a lot in showing us the way. We did get lost because we missed a junction but thankfully there is another junction in front so we got back to the correct route.

Arriving there, we found out that Menara Kuala Lumpur does not have allocated parking bays so we have to park at the roadside. It is absurd, really, because with many tourists coming in own transportaion will have difficulties to park their vehicles.

After we parked our car (after twice circling the area, we did find a spot, sigh..) we got to the reservation booth and stated our booking, and we were given two tickets to the restaurant.

NOTE : Reservation is needed for dining at the restaurant, and for dinner, three (3) days advance reservation is needed.

We were ushered to the lift, and arrived at the restaurant at just a little under 30seconds ! Our ears got a bit stucked ( is that even the right term ? LOL ) because of the different air altitude.

Here is the picture in front of the restaurant, it was taken after lunch actually, because when we arrived, we were just too excited that we forgotten to take pictures, we were like jakuns, LOL.

Lunch was buffet; with Western, Malay cuisines and a dessert counter. Food is all paid for but the drinks were charged separately. We ordered apple juice (for my girlfriend) and I ordered hot espresso. The drinks were a bit pricey, and too little, but sky juice can be asked, free of charge.

The settings was cozy, with soothing music to serenade you and get you in the mood to relax and savor the moment. They also have live singer to entertain diners, playing musics from jazz to R&Bs. No techno and metal songs, thank God.

Thankfully that day the skies are blue and it was not raining, it was drizzling after we came down from the tower. Should there be rain, surely we couldn't not have a clear picture of Kuala Lumpur from where we were sitting.

The restaurant rotates slowly, so you won't feel dizzy. You will be back on the same spot every 90minutes. However, you may lost your sense of direction, especially when you came out of the toilet, because whilst the restaurant is moving, the toilet is not. Not to worry, however, because you could just round the restaurant and still managed to find your seat.

There were two birthdays celebrated in the restaurants, and we just join in to sing birthday song to them. There was one family who brought along their mom and presented their mom with a birthday cake and wished her happy birthday and happy mother's day. The mom was clearly touched and I could see her shed a tear of gratitude.

There is no strict code to dine here, simple guideline is to wear smart casuals. However, guys are not allowed to dine here wearing shorts and jeans ! If you come here but you are wearing shorts/jeans, you are still allowed entry; but you have to wear sarong ! Sarong, or better known as kain pelikat, is usually worn by Muslim male for prayers.
